This was a nice surprise and went supercell as it hit near Katoomba and north towards Bell

Went for a storm chase to the Blue Mountains and litereally drove to a developing supercell! After stopping near Katoomba after getting structure, I headed back north playing catchup to see what the hail size was. Some occasional large thumps on the vehicle indicated at least golf balls but as I neared Bell, the size were larger and there were hail drifts!

  1. Yes well thanks for the evidence – unlike your good selves, I’m changing my return route to Sydney tomorrow arvo. I’m sure you experts will find more ;)

  2. Lee Balfour as much as we would loved to have chased this Blue Mtns cell this afternoon, We should be happy we didn’t encounter these hail stones! I’m content with our mammatus cloud shots over Sydney anyway

  3. Flying into Sydney around 2:30 local time there was a powerful overshoot visible in the storm system that went through the Katoomba/Blackheath area. It looked quite organised at the time! These two photos are 7 minutes apart
