Incredible lightning photos from Darwin, Austrailia —

Published by:

Here are some INCREDIBLE lightning shots from Mike O'Neill of Darwin, Australia...You can find more of his work at his website, The Tropics of Northern Australia probably have some of the best lightning displays in the world during the rainy season(s), as the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone sags south to through the area. Australia also averages around two category 5 tropical cyclones per year! Enjoy the pictures!

31st May 2007 supercell produces a tornado, fire and lightning

Published by:

Michael, I returned back yesterday after what I thought was a pretty successful year chasing. Even the last day 31st May 2007 produced a tornado from a seemingly unusual storm chase event. The pictures from that event were rather spectacular including some unusual features such as smoke caught into inflow!

I probably require a little time to recover from this trip and it is a reminder as to how much energy is used up travelling and in the adrenalin! More pictures will be posted on the forum and also in the photography catalogue over the next day or so.

Lightning between Glen Innes and Tenterfield

Published by:

Hi Jimmy, didn't end up going to the NT yesterday and mostly glad I didn't. Ended up late storm wise and fairly weak though would have got some lightning between Glen Innes and Tenterfield later I guess.

Instead did a few hours doing some landscape work

Might venture near the hills to the west later today for some evening lightning if that's how it turns out.
