Heat Wave and ex-Tropical Cyclone Dylan

It is a complete contrast in temperatures between north eastern parts of Australia and the interior of the continent as great wave conditions continue today. More heat wave conditions are expected for the next several days particularly in South Australia and bordering with Victoria and Southwestern NSW. Temperatures of about 40C will not be uncommon in this region as with other parts of the central parts of the continent.

More flooding is expected in central Queensland along the coast and in areas in central Queensland as the tropical low moves inland.

The Bureau of Meteorology map has been rather accurate in depicting both the timing and path of this now official Tropical Cyclone Dylan expected to make landfall on the central Queensland coast 1am - overnight.

With it rainfall totals of 500mm or so are not out of the question.

Tropical Cyclone Advice for Townsville 30th January 2014 2

tropical cyclone advice January 30th 2014A tropical cyclone advice / warning has been issued for the central Queensland Coast centred on the region near Townsville. A tropical low is developing and may develop into a category 1 tropical cyclone by later in the day before making landfall. Heavy rainfall and winds of about 120km/h are possible as the tropical low makes landfall and ventures inland.

This may be some of the best news for drought stricken regions of central Queensland with probably the best rainfall in one year for most!

More information and latest warnings can be found on the Bureau of Meteorology and Australian Severe Weather Cyclones page.
