Hi guys the forecast temperature of 47C for extreme western Sydney - can any of the forecasters let us know how this figure was decided upon? What are 850 temperatures? What models? Just curious

I know we are under an inversion but usually in near record breaking temperatures of 46 to 47 it is usually 40 by 10am. It’s 23 as i type at 9:15am. It will have to hurry with a S change anticipated later.

Not challenging the forecast maximum - simply trying to find out what high resolution models or decisions were used to get to this? Two days ago the forecast was 45C it struggled to just under 43C. The smoke from the bushfires may have assisted that.

For those in the US 47C = 116.6 F
