Sydney Wollongong Heavy 2nd 3rd May 2015

Heavy rainfall is expected to fall in the Hunter region projected towards the Sydney and Wollongong region this evening and overnight. There is a possibility of falls in excess of 100mm of rain although most of the falls are likely to be about 50mm. The region has not recovered from the recent drenching within the past 2 weeks and this can only add to the already saturated soil in many areas. Earlier, very heavy rainfall fell across regions to the northeast of NSW and SE Queensland areas causing severe flooding.

  1. The model posted is reasonably accurate. Some moderate to heavy rain did occur around Sydney but mainly coastal. The highest figure was 84 mm around Chatswood with 77 mm near Narrabeen. There was an area across the North Shore and into the northern beaches that had from 50 to 84 mm of rain to 9 am 3/5/15. A vast area of the city had 26 to 49 mm but falls tapered across the outer western and southern suburbs where 15 to 23 mm was prevalent. As per the model, the heavier falls were mainly coastal. A drying trend should now become established.
