An upper trough passed through Sydney this evening with rapid moving elevated storms. Pity the storms were not able to root into the lower layer. Most of the lightning were flashes. A low pressure system is set to develop off the coast rapidly with cyclogenisis occurring. But this is expected to have little influence on the coastal regions as it moves rapidly away into the Tasman.
I very much doubt this is this case - well there does not seem to be any evidence of a comparative increase. Take into account the number of tornadoes appearing in the media - news, Youtube, and other sources as well as images. With the massive increase in mobile phone video camera and phone technologies, the number of tornadoes has not increased anywhere near as significantly - in fact not significant at all. Barry Hanstrum makes and interest reference to this in the following article:
"While we are getting better at recording tornado activity, there's no evidence to show an actual increase in the number of tornadoes around Australia, says Hanstrum."
Very interesting indeed!
